Only position players with less than 130 plate appearances at the ML level qualify
The third percentage listed is not OPS. It is OBPI. OBPI stands for On base percentage plus isolated power. I view OPS as a step in the right direction for player evaluation but still inadequate. I came up with OBPI to use in it's place, it is essentially a way of combining slugging percentage and on base percentage. A simple way to come up with OBPI is to subtract batting average from slugging percentage and then add that number to OBP.

Going with offense instead of pitching with 2007's second overall pick DC hopes Twitchell can become an above average defensive ML second baseman. If he can he will be one of the greats, a perennial All Star, MVP candidate, and eventual hall of famer. Worst case scenario is he has to be moved to left field where he won't be quite as valuable but a star nonetheless. Twitchell is a big proponent of OBP and OPS, but other than that the comparisons to Joe Morgan are warranted.

The Dominican shortstop (2nd year in a row that the 42's went to that island for a SS) will probably end up moving to CF when he reaches Washington. The 42's came up short in the 2009 Pedro Rijo sweepstakes and ended up with Estrada as a consolation prize, not too shabby. Estrada is a 5-tool player who is almost ready now and actually contributed in the ML playoffs.

Our 2nd Dominican shortstop on the list, Cabrera is the SS of the future, which could be as soon as next year. Due to his low durability Cabrera will platoon vs. righties and be a defensive replacement versus lefties, who he is not as strong against. For a shortstop Cabrera shows great pop but sometimes has problems making contact.
Best Comparison: Miguel Tejada
Strengths: Glove, Hitting for Power, vs. righties, Makeup

Hughes was the 4th pick in the country in 2008 and though the 42's wanted pitching they went with the best player possible, and Hughes was their man. A National player of the year candidate at Arkansas, Bert has continued his great production in the minors. Right field has been the 42's weakest spot at the ML level the last few years but Hughes should arrive soon correct all that very quickly.

Hasegawa is a slugging catcher who has averaged a HR about every 10 ab's in the minors thus far. Tsuyoshi, or Tim as his teammates have taken to calling him, is a transplant from the Korean leagues, where he met with a degree of racism as an ethnic Japanese. Hasegawa calls an average game but that is not what will make him a star. Hasegawa is a Mateo Medrano clone and may replace him at the ML down the line. Walter Waters will also compete with Hasegawa for the mantle of Catcher of the future, and may as well have been 5b on this list to Tim's 5a.
Best Comparison: Javy Lopez

Vasco is a native of Mexico whose family moved to Wisconsin when he was 4. Averaging more than an RBI and Run scored per game in the minors, Hernandez is a switch hitting power hitter who will be the 42's regular right fielder in 2010, platooning versus righties with the next player on our list, Danys Pujols.
Best Comparison: Bobby Bonilla

Pujols (pronounced POO-holes) was acquired in the season 5 around the same time as Vasco Hernandez. How fitting that the 2 of them will finally man right field together for Washington in 2010, with Danys platooning versus lefties and pinch running and hitting versus righties. Pujols had a cup of coffee in 2009, where he hit a game winning pinch hit 3 run homer on the first ML pitch he saw. Danys is a double machine with a good degree of pop as well. A 30/30 player in 2008, Pujols relies on his great power/speed combination and natural talent very heavily but will need to keep improving to hammer down a regular ML spot.

Despite Jose Montanez manning CF for the 42's the team chose Grimes with it's supplemental pick in 2006 to fill the need for a pure CF. Incidentally the 42's received the supplemental pick because Arizona and roperash decided to sign the mustachioed man himself, Matthew Banks, to a 3 year, 8.1m contract. Banks is now toiling in AAA. Thanks roperash!

The 42's got a bargain late in the 2005 IFA market in Hideo Martin. It is possible the import from Osaka, Japan was not scouted well enough or teams may have been scared off by the fact that Hideo often has problems riding the rides at fairs. He also carries 170 pounds on his short frame, which could bode problems down the line. Regardless Martin projects to 5'7" which would make him only very short, as opposed to freakishly short. If there is a shorter player in HBD for HDers someone please bring him to my attention.
Martin is slated to become the 42's starting 2B in 2010, where he will essentially replace Bernard Hammond
Best Comparison: 5'4? 170? I don't know, Freddy Patek? Eddie Gaedel? Short Round? (Martin has grown 3 inches in the last 2 seasons, guess he is a late bloomer)
Strengths: All around solid player

Acquired in exchange for staff ace Jim Winchester in season 5 hopes are high for Edmonds. The Florida State alum is the third 3B on the 42's top 10 list and is also stuck behind ML 3B Julio Segui. It is likely a position switch is in his future, most likely to RF, where he could become a gold glove, Jesse Barfield-type player. Down the line Edmonds could be a significant contributer on a playoff team.
Best Comparison: Gary Gaetti
