The 42's sent ML prospect Cookie Gonzalez to the St. Louis Cardinals in exchange for Matt Romero and 2 million dollars. The primary motivation behind the trade was to sign some of the 42's draft picks (specifically contributing to the 2nd thru 8th rounders signing bonuses). Gonzalez is ML ready and should be a solid 4th outfielder for bulls when he is ready to bring him up. Romero provides the 42's with a body to fill some innings for their farm system.
In a semi-blockbuster the 42's acquired "Sudden" Sam Morris but paid for it, giving up 3 prospects; Miguel Henriquez, Nash the Slash Langston, and Ben Davis. Richmond picked up Morris's contract for the rest of the season but the 42's are responsible for the 2.8 million he is owed next season. Washington's owner, schuyler101, has sentimental ties as Morris is a player from his season 1 stint as owner of the Bombers franchise, formerly located in Colorado and Cheyenne. Morris was 101's most effective pitcher that year and it was only fitting to bring him back towards the end of his career to solidify the 42's bullpen for their playoff run. Morris had been solid his whole career but had started to sputter this year, 101 believes it was just sample size issues and sure enough he has begun to bounce back (or regress towards the mean, however you want to look at it). Richmond gets Langston who can be an ML closer down the line and Henriquez who can fill in a bullpen as well. Davis is a very capable defensive center fielder who was already found a new home in Boston for the chokers.
