Felix Arnold was made expendable by the Yamid Encarnacion callup and found the first bus out of D.C.. "I knew my days were numbered when I Roy Hobbs...err..Yamid taking batting practice." Arnold was shipped to Philadelphia for Ed Patrick, 500K and 10 bats. "I know Philadelphia has a reputation for being a bit harsh, but thus far they have welcomed me with open arms. They really are the city of brotherly love."
The 42's system has a good amount of depth (i.e. borderline ML pitchers) but lacking in star power so 42's management took a risk to acquire just that. Justin Seay is a former second round pick that 42's brass feels has 1st round potential. Seay will report to AA immediately and attempt to hone his mechanics and start putting up the numbers he is capable of. Eric Edwards and Carlos Santiago were shipped to Syracuse in exchange for Seay. the 42's were reluctant to include Edwards, wanting to instead send Brady Simpson off, but namshub insisted on Edwards. Both are legitimate prospects with bright futures ahead of them but who were expendable due to D.C's position prospect depth.
IFA Juan Arrojo is a one inning specialist who could contribute at the ML level at some point and someone Washington feels is a steal at 600K.
IFA Mateo Pena is another setup man who is very similar to Arrojo in all ways but his price tag, 4 million dollars.
IFA Tsuyoshi Hasegawa has been signed to possibly be Mateo Medrano's successor at catcher a few years down the line, if the 42's elect not to let Medrano leave via free agency. Hasegawa cost the 42's 6.8 million dollars to land from Seoul, Korea. Hasegawa was quoted as follows "It is nice to be able to finally come to America. Growing up in Seoul is hard on someone of japanese descent, there is still a significant anti-japanese faction in Korea today."
IFA Jose Cabrera is the crown jewel of the 42's IFA haul in 2008. For a price tag of 15 million dollars Cabrera will develop nicely into a slick fielding power hitting shortstop of the future for the 42's
